چکیده

Results about the vitrification of several hazardous iron-rich industrial wastes (from productions of Zn and Cu metals, as well as EAFD and MSWA) and the usage of obtained glasses for synthesise of sintered glass-ceramics are summarises. It is shown that the appropriated method of sinter-crystallization mainly depends on the crystallization trend of used glasses. When the parent composition is characterised by formation of a moderate amount of crystal phase low temperature sintering with short crystallization step in the interval 800-900 o C can be used. In addition, attractive granite-like building glass-ceramic can be obtained by mixing fine and coarse glass frits and “free” sintering in refractory moulds at 1000-1050 o C. Contrary, when intensive phase formation carries out the crystallization inhibits the sintering resulting in specimens with scarce degree of densification. However, in some cases a secondary densification process occurs at temperatures near to the eutectic ones, leading to well sintered samples with higher crystallinity and improved mechanical properties. It is also highlighted that the preventing of Fe 2+ oxidation by using inert atmosphere during the heat-treatments leads to a decreasing of sintering temperature, finer crystalline structure and additional enhancement of the mechanical properties.

Production and Crystallization Behavior of an Iron Rich Glass–Ceramic Prepared by Ironmaking and Steelmaking Wastes

Using wastes as starting raw materials is a common method to reduce the production costs and the environmental pollution problems arising from such wastes. In this study the production and crystallization behavior of an iron rich glass prepared by iron and steel making wastes has been investigated. The raw materials used, were the blast furnace slag, the blast furnace dust, converter slag and s...

Iron-Rich Sintered Glass-Ceramics from Industrial Wastes

In this study, sintered glass-ceramics made up of jarosite (a hazardous industrial waste) have been obtained by sintering high-iron-content glasses. Thermal gravimetry and differential thermal analysis, carried out in different atmospheres, have been utilized to explain the phase formations in the volume and iron oxidation on the surface of the glass particles. Low-angle XRD technique has been ...

Vitrification of copper flotation waste.

The vitrification of an hazardous iron-rich waste (W), arising from slag flotation of copper production, was studied. Two glasses, containing 30wt% W were melted for 30min at 1400 degrees C. The first batch, labeled WSZ, was obtained by mixing W, blast furnace slag (S) and zeolite tuff (Z), whereas the second, labeled WG, was prepared by mixing W, glass cullet (G), sand and limestone. The glass...

Kinetics of Ceramic Phase Crystallization in a Glass Derived from Wastes of Iron and Steel Industry

Intensified environmental regulations have posed numerous challenges in the disposal of industrial wastes. The steel industry is one of the biggest production industries, with a considerable amount of daily wastes. Production of glass-ceramic from the steel industry waters is one of the proper solutions for this problem. In this study, the application utilization of different wastes (such as bl...

Vitrification of lead-rich solid ashes from incineration of hazardous industrial wastes.

Lead-rich solid industrial wastes were vitrified by the addition of glass formers in various concentrations, to produce non-toxic vitreous stabilized products that can be freely disposed or used as construction materials. Toxicity of both the as-received industrial solid waste and the stabilized products was determined using standard leaching test procedures. The chemically stable vitreous prod...
